Chris Daniel of Holly Springs never even had a traditional blog before February 2005, when he began posting videos at chrisdaniel.blogspot.com.

"I wanted to put more videos on the Web, and this seems to be the easiest way to do it," said Daniel, a 29-year-old systems analyst for GlaxoSmithKline. "I wanted to start pushing my creativity."

Daniel tries to post a new video each week. Recent subjects include his napping 18-month-old son, Evan; a trip to The Streets at Southpoint and death-penalty protesters outside Central Prison.

Some posts come across like little documentary movies. In addition to the video he shot outside the prison, Daniel made a trip to Chapel Hill in October for the annual Franklin Street Halloween bash and captured revelers in all their freak-flag-flying glory.

Daniel has had as many as 150 people subscribe to his vlog, mostly through iTunes. One day, he'd like to make a living through his video project, but he has set smaller goals for 2006.

"I want to do more citizen journalist stuff this year," he said. "It's my New Year's resolution."
