Neomonde Bakery & Deli serves a fabulous Rice and Lentil Pilaf topped with caramelized onions. It is delicious both hot and cold and would be a great main or side dish. Do you think you could persuade the owners to give you the recipe?

-- S.R., Raleigh

The area's oldest Middle Eastern deli, Neomonde began as a bakery in 1977 and now boasts two locations in the Triangle: the original in Raleigh and a second eatery that opened in Morrisville in 2002.

One key to the shop's enduring success is the hospitality of owners Samir, Joseph and Mounir Saleh, the Lebanese native brothers whose smiles are as warm today as they were when they founded Neomonde. Another, without question, is the consistent quality and freshness of the food, which includes house-baked pitas and a tempting assortment of Middle Eastern specialties.

Thanks to Mounir Saleh and his wife, Lisa, for providing the recipe for the Rice and Lentil Pilaf (called Mjadarah in Lebanese) and for sharing the secrets of Neomonde's popular Pasta Salad.
