Blue Ridge Mountain Fair

Knotts Island Peach and Wildlife Festivals

Saturday and Sunday, Knotts Island

Knotts Island has a peachy deal -- two festivals for the price of one. The Peach Festival is at Ruritan Park, with a parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, and kids' rides, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and live entertainment both days from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. Oh, and did we mention there will be peaches aplenty? In pie and ice cream and fresh off the tree. The Wildlife Festival takes place at Knotts Island Elementary School. See carvings, photography, crafts and more. Chilled Soup Series

Saturday and Sunday, Siler City

Take a respite from summer heat at Horizon Cellars Winery. Enjoy a free bowl of chilled soup or pay $4 to taste wines (in a souvenir glass). East Coast Championship Pro Rodeo

Friday and Saturday, Newport

Herb Festival

Saturday and Sunday, Ronda

Historic Flat Rock Tour of Homes

Prominent Low Country plantation owners built large summer homes in Flat Rock, which they dubbed the "little Charleston of the Mountains."
