PineCone kicks off its Garner Family Series on Saturday with the harmonizing bluegrass of the Wells Family. The concert, which will take place at Lake Benson Park, is free. So take a picnic supper and a blanket or lawn chair and settle in with family bluegrass at its homegrown best.

On Sunday, the old-time music trio of Martin and Johnson will perform a free, PineCone-sponsored show at the N.C. Museum of History. The band -- Wayne and Margaret Martin and Craig Johnson -- will perform songs from its acclaimed CD, "Birdie." Also Sunday, Country Music Hall of Fame legend Charlie Louvin will bring his band and classic Louvin Brothers repertoire to the Berkeley Café (see story, page 19). While in Carrboro, former Red Clay Rambler Bill Hicks and singer/songwriter Joe Woodson will team up for an evening of music at Weaver Street Market.

On Thursday, the great Mountain Heart bluegrass band will deliver the high lonesome sound at the Pour House. The band will feature songs from its acclaimed new live CD, "Road that Never Ends."
