Editor's Note: You'll notice no movie reviews this week. "Bangkok Dangerous," starring Nicolas Cage -- the only new film opening in our market this week -- was not screened for critics. Check out film critic Craig D. Lindsey's Uncle Crizzle blog at blogs.newsobserver.com/unclecrizzle/ for a review after it opens.

And now on to next week...

Do you feel a chill in the air? Neither do we. But if the movie industry says it's time for fall movies, it's time for fall movies. So next week look for our fall movie preview; we'll tell you what's coming and what's worth going to see. Also, look for our chat with the always interesting singer Laurie Anderson, and another with author Alan Weisman, who's coming to town to read from his book "The World Without Us."

And opening next week: "The Women" is an update of the 1939 film starring Norma Shearer, Joan Crawford and Rosalind Russell. This version stars Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing and Eva Mendes. Ryan plays a woman who thinks she's happily married, only to find her husband is cheating on her with a shopgirl. The Coen Brothers return to their dark comic selves with "Burn After Reading," in which a disk containing the memoirs of a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two gym employees who try to benefit from the discovery. Another star-studded cast: Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, George Clooney and John Malkovich. Tyler Perry is back with "The Family That Preys," starring Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard and Sanaa Lathan, in which two women go on a cross-country road trip to heal their families bereft with secrets and scandals. And finally, "Righteous Kill," starring Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino as two veteran NYC detectives who try to find the connection between a murder and a case they think they solved years ago.
