With all the heaviness in the world, Lord, could we use a break right now: simple songs about simple pleasures, sung by an unprepossessing man who somehow hasn't lost his own wonder-years innocence. In other words, we need Jonathan Richman. A decade past his last big commercial revival in "There's Something About Mary" (in which he served as the love story's Greek chorus narrator), Richman is still at it. He plays tonight at Chapel Hill's Local 506.
