Alto and soprano saxophonist and flutist T.K. Blue, also known as Talib Kibwe, conveys an international perspective on jazz, especially its African heritage. Blue performs tonight at the Lee County Community Arts Center in Sanford. Born in New York City of Trinidadian and Jamaican parents, he has performed with South African pianist Abdullah Ibrahim and the Afro-centric New York City pianist Randy Weston, among many others. Blue spent most of the 1980s in Paris, often performing with African musicians. He is now director of jazz studies at Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus. His latest album is "Follow the North Star" (JaJa Records). The Heart of Carolina Jazz Orchestra, directed by Gregg Gelb, also performs on tonight's program.
