In the Wings

The nonprofit Hidden Voices will trumpet loudly tonight at its fundraiser to support current and future projects.

Hidden Voices creates original performances with people in communities that don't ordinarily get heard by a wide audience -- from prisoners to immigrants and teens.

Tonight's benefit, at 8 p.m. at Carrboro's ArtsCenter, will include scenes from a new project, "Speaking Without Tongues," which deals with violence and survival.

It will also feature a slide show of past projects, and readings by local writers Allan Gurganus, Clyde Edgerton (who will also play guitar), Nancy Peacock and Jaki Shelton Green. Sadiya will belly dance. Christen Campbell will perform jazz. The evening's host will be John Feltch, ArtsCenter instructor and PlayMakers Repertory Company actor and director.
