Overview

The News & Observer Publishing Co.

A company with deep roots in the Triangle, The News & Observer Publishing Co. publishes not only The News & Observer, one of the nation’s best regional newspapers, but also four weekly or bi-weekly newspapers offering community coverage in Chapel Hill, Cary, Johnston County and eastern Wake County. The company launched nando.net, one of the nation’s first internet service providers, in 1994, and today is home to both newsobserver.com and triangle.com, the region’s leading websites. It is one of the region’s major employers, with more than 1,200 full-time and part-time workers and a carrier force of about 750 independent contractors.

Building Tours

We welcome groups on tours of our newspaper office and printing facility. Visitors must be at least 9 to participate. To schedule a tour, please call our Human Resources department at (919) 829-4854.

Recycling

We began our recycling program in 1991 and now collect and recycle the equivalent of 50 percent of our total newsprint consumption. Most of the newspapers and magazines we collect at 327 sites in 19 counties is recycled into the newsprint we use. In addition to helping our landfills, recycling reduces the need for virgin newsprint, saves trees and helps the environment. Please join us and recycle your newspapers. Call us for information.
