2006 RETAIL ADVERTISING RATES
2007 RETAIL ADVERTISING RATES (effective March 5)
Retail advertising rates apply only to individual retail businesses with permanent locations in North Carolina that sell directly to the consumer. Ads that include more than one business will be charged at the In-State rate.

2006 IN-STATE ADVERTISING RATES
2007 IN-STATE ADVERTISING RATES (effective March 5)
In-State rates apply to dealer-list (multi-sig) advertising and advertising containing two or more company logos. Advertising originating in North Carolina from distributors, wholesalers, jobbers, co-op, bottlers, brokers, local manufacturers, manufacturer's agents, public utilities, associations, or other non-retail advertisers are billed at the In-State rate. Internet service providers and telecommunications service providers of the telephone, paging and wireless industry qualify for In-State rates. Local retailers selling only the product are charged at the Retail Rate. Advertising placed by organizers of transient events, such as seminars or special sales held at locations not owned by the organizers, such as hotels/motels or convention centers, qualify for the In-State rate. Insurance companies with home office in North Carolina are charged the In-State rate. Out-of-state insurance companies are charged the National rate. Local insurance agencies are charged the Retail rate.

NATIONAL ADVERTISING RATES
National rates apply to advertising for products, services and/or companies that do not have permanent retail locations in North Carolina and do not sell directly to the consumer. This includes but is not limited to the following: Internet-related advertising (dot.com, e-commerce, computer hardware and software, search engines and virtual stores) irrespective of location of facilities; major transportation companies, such as airlines, cruises lines, bus lines and railways; insurance companies with home offices outside of North Carolina; national elections; federal government agencies; mutual funds, stock brokerage companies; packaged goods; health and beauty aids; network TV and radio, communication companies and publishers; and travel destinations located outside of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. National rates apply to advertising that the publisher has established, or will establish, as being national.

2006 TRAVEL ADVERTISING RATES
2007 TRAVEL ADVERTISING RATES (effective March 5)
Travel Rates apply only to travel-related businesses such as resorts, accommodations and attractions located in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee. Travel-related businesses in other states are charged the National Rate. Travel rates are non-commissionable. For additional contract levels see Retail Rate Card. Transportation businesses do not qualify for these travel rates.

2006 SECONDARY MARKET RATES
2007 SECONDARY MARKET RATES (effective March 5)
Our secondary market rates apply to any retail business in North Carolina that does not have a location in The News & Observer's six-county MSA of Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston, Franklin and Chatham counties.

These rates apply to advertising published in the State/Final editions in the Metro (local news) section of the paper, Tuesday through Saturday, of each week. Advertising published at these rates is subject to all terms and conditions of The News & Observer's current rate cards to the extent not inconsistent herewith.

2007 OUTDOOR SPORTS RATES (effective March 5)
Each Thursday, the sports department of The News & Observer produces special coverage of hunting, fishing and other related outdoor activities.
