Q: What type of transactions can I make online?

A: You can start a new subscription, make a payment on a current subscription, place a vacation hold, report a delivery problem and update your account information.

Q: Why do I have to register?

A: Registering allows us to provide secure account information, such as your transaction history and account balance.

Q: Where does The N&O deliver?

A: The News and Observer delivers throughout the Triangle and eastern North Carolina. If you are unsure, please contact Customer Service to determine if we offer delivery in your neighborhood.

Q: What is the home delivery deadline?

A: Our goal is to deliver your newspaper no later than 6:00 am Mon-Fri, 6:30 am on Saturdays, and 7:00 am on Sundays in Wake County. In all other areas, we deliver by 6:30 am Mon-Fri, and 7:30 am on the weekends. When weather, road conditions or mechanical failure at our printing facility make that impossible, we post delivery updates on our customer service line.

Q: How do I subscribe to The News & Observer?

A: Easy. Click here.

Q: When do I receive a bill?

A: The N&O mails subscriber bills immediately upon the start of a subscription. We allow 14 days for payment. If we don't receive payment, your carrier will continue to deliver the newspaper and attempt to collect unless you notify our office to stop delivery.
Renewal notices are mailed 45 days before your expiration date, except in the case of subscribers who renew every 4 weeks. Those subscribers receive their renewal notice immediately after their payment has posted. If you owe us money, click here to make a payment.

Q: How do I report a delivery problem?

A: You can report a missed or late delivery here or by calling one of our helpful Customer Service Representatives. For redelivery within Wake, Durham and Orange County, please call us no later than 10am weekdays, 11am Saturdays, and noon Sundays. Replacement papers are not available in all areas. Instead, a credit will be applied to your account.

Q: How do I place a temporary hold while I’m traveling or on vacation?

A: When you are away from your home, you can suspend your delivery and have all of the copies delivered upon your return, donate the copies to our Newspapers in Education program, or request a full credit to your account. You can place a vacation hold online or by contacting one of our helpful Customer Service Representatives.

Q: How do I purchase a back issue of The N&O?

A: The N&O archives back issues for approximately six months. For availability and pricing, please contact Customer Service.

Q: What is a “value-added” day?

A: Subscribers who receive home delivery on weekends or Sundays only will also receive the paper on MLK Day, Presidents’ Day, NCAA brackets Monday, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Columbus Day, national elections day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, at no additional cost.

Q: Can I view your archives online?

A: All home delivery subscribers are eligible for free access to our online newspaper archive by clicking here.
