CAMP LEJEUNE -- A Marine from Delaware died from injuries suffered in Iraq while being flown from Germany to a Texas hospital, family members said.

Cpl. Cory Palmer, 21, of Seaford, was injured in an explosion near Fallujah on May 1 and died Saturday while being transferred from a hospital in Germany to a burn center in San Antonio, said his uncle, Ralph Palmer.

Palmer's parents, Charles and Danna Palmer, had gone to Texas to await the arrival of their injured son.

But after the plane left Germany, Cory Palmer experienced complications that prompted an emergency landing in Nova Scotia, Ralph Palmer said.

Ralph Palmer said Charles called him at 2:15 a.m. Sunday to say Cory had died.

The Marine was a member of the 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune. The Department of Defense confirmed his death Tuesday.

Palmer was injured when an explosive hit the Humvee he was in near Fallujah, according to his aunt, Montine Willin.

Palmer was on his second tour of duty in Iraq and had been there for five weeks when he was injured.
