Lejeune Marine killed in Iraq

LOCKPORT, LA. - A 28-year-old Marine Corps sergeant, based out of Camp Lejeune, has been killed in Iraq by a sniper.

The Department of Defense said Staff Sgt. Danny P. Dupre of Lockport was killed July 15.

Gunnery Sgt. Damien Martin escorted the remains in Louisiana and said Dupre was shot while gathering intelligence for his squad in Ramadi, about 70 miles west of Baghdad. Dupre's funeral was scheduled for Monday.

Dupre served four overseas deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dupre was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 9th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force.

His wife, Crystal, lives in Jacksonville, Fla., with their 3-year-old son, Daniel Dupre.
