Regarding the Nov. 13 article "NAACP responds to graffiti at NCSU":

I wish the N.C. NAACP was as aggressive in its pursuit of those who commit black-on-black crime as it is in seeking the expulsion of those NCSU students. Yes, it's shameful that in 2008 we still have seemingly educated people who make racist comments, but that's the price we pay to live in a free society.

However, there are significant differences between the threat of, and the actual commission of, murder and assault. More than 90 percent of black crime victims are attacked and murdered by other blacks. Are black crime victims less dead or traumatized when murdered or attacked, respectively, by black perpetrators?

Since we're seeking change, maybe the N.C. NAACP needs to modify its mission and become more relevant to the needs of the community. Self-respect starts in our communities.
