Regarding the Sept. 29 article about Horseshoe Farm Park ("Nature, recreation vie for Durant" Sept. 29):

Nature enjoyment and artistic expression are both highly popular forms of recreation for many people. And there is a community recreation center already planned for Horseshoe Farm. It's a combined Environmental and Arts Education Center, which will provide many program opportunities, including classes and summer camps, as well as accommodate community gatherings and meetings.

There are many places to put high-intensity active recreation (i.e. sports) other than Horseshoe and Durant, including Sydnor White Park, Watkins Road Park, the North Wake Landfill and partnerships with Wake Tech and other schools like River Bend Elementary.

Citizens are intelligent. They know there are alternatives, and that its unnecessary to destroy our largest and most beautiful natural areas. Nature, arts and sports are all forms of recreation that can and should be enjoyed, each in the most appropriate place.
