Regarding the March 1 article "Easley: Put offices on Dix land":
I was disappointed to learn that Gov. Mike Easley has not heard the prevalent voice of North Carolina regarding the issue of preserving the Dorothea Dix property as a world-class park. Yet I am relieved that two lawmakers are keeping this dialogue open -- thanks to state Sen. Janet Cowell and Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight for understanding how important Dix Park is to the citizens.
This is our chance to save land that we can never get back, and to create a viable economic engine for generation after generation. Basnight's view, as you reported it, is correct: "Dix should be turned into a park -- becoming for the fast-growing state capital what Central Park is to New York City."
