To my dismay I read the March 30 article "Change pushed by insurers," which reported that state Senate Majority Leader Tony Rand is proposing to take powers away from Insurance Commissioner Jim Long and turn to the court system to decide insurance rates.
What is he thinking about? Is Rand planning to change all the rules to allow the insurance companies to charge us more money?
The same article stated that rates on car insurance here are the fifth-lowest in the nation -- is that a bad thing? Help me out here. Also, rates for homeowners were the 20th-lowest in the nation. What does Rand plan to do? Have this all changed to higher rates?
Sounds to me like this man needs to be voted out of office. He doesn't seem to have North Carolina residents' best interest at heart.
It's apparent by Long's record that he's done an outstanding job. Now, the only way to defeat his record is to write bills to circumvent his powers as a commissioner? As Andy Rooney says, "Give me a break!"
