Joe Stewart, executive director of the Insurance Federation of North Carolina, was quoted in your March 30 article "Changed pushed by insurers" as saying that as an elected official, the state insurance commissioner is destined to be an "advocate for the consumer."
Let's be clear about this. We the People of North Carolina expect every appointed or elected person in our state government to be our advocate.
Sen. Tony Rand has no business in trying to change the insurance commissioner's authority to set rates, period.
