In the Dec. 18 news story "Parcel is 'emerald' in park plan," we learn that Lake Myra will get a new neighbor: Wendell Falls, a subdivision of 4,000 new homes.

The Dec. 20 article "Growth spoils lakes; neighbors foot the bill" reported that stormwater runoff from a shopping center, new homes and a wider road has pushed dirt and sludge into the three lakes at Greystone Village. The 830 homeowners in Greystone have had to pay to clean and maintain these lakes, not the newer developers.

It's time for Wake County planners to pay even closer attention to the new project -- so we don't see a headline about Lake Myra being destroyed. Four thousand new houses alone will produce enough hard surfaces, enough runoff. Plan better. Look at other projects of this size. Buy a clue. Do all your homework. Keep a very sharp eye on this project regarding any future additions around the area. Question the need for 4,000 houses!
