Duke Law earns top 10

Magazine rates graduate schools

Duke's law school comes out a winner in U.S. News & World Report's 2008 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools, hitting newsstands Monday.

The guide contains the magazine's rankings of graduate schools in categories such as business, education, engineering, law and medicine.

As usual, the Triangle's three large campuses appeared in the major rankings. Duke's law school made it into the top 10 for the first time, the magazine said. Stanford was the only school in the top 10 in each of the five largest graduate school categories.

Here are some of the rankings:

* BUSINESS: Duke's Fuqua School of Business (tied for 12th); UNC-Chapel Hill's Kenan-Flagler School of Business (tied for 18th); Wake Forest University's Babcock School of Business (49th).

* EDUCATION: UNC-CH (tied for 22nd).

* ENGINEERING: Duke (tied for 30th); N.C. State University (tied for 34th).

* LAW: Duke (tied for 10th); UNC-CH and Wake Forest (tied for 36th).

* MEDICINE (RESEARCH): Duke (tied for eighth); UNC-CH (20th); Wake Forest (tied for 44th).

* MEDICINE (PRIMARY CARE): UNC-CH (second); East Carolina University's Brody School of Medicine (sixth); Duke (tied for 34th).

* BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES: Duke (tied for 12th); UNC-CH (tied for 26th).

* CHEMISTRY: UNC-CH (tied for 16th); Duke (tied for 43rd).

* NURSING: UNC-CH School of Nursing (tied for fifth); UNC-CH School of Public Health (tied for 12th); Duke (tied for 15th); UNC-Charlotte and UNC-Greensboro (tied for 72nd).

* PUBLIC HEALTH: UNC-CH (tied for second).

* PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT: Duke (second).

* VETERINARY MEDICINE: NCSU (tied for fifth).

* HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT: UNC-CH (third); Duke's Fuqua School of Business (tied for 20th).
