Jazz is in the air

The Triangle Jazz Society will host its second annual Jazz Social at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Cary's Koka Booth Amphitheatre. Entertainers will include the Triangle Jazz Society All-Stars, featuring Elmer Gibson, Brian Miller, Peter Innocenti, Tom Browne, Larry Q. Draughn and Lois Deloatch. Refreshments, a wine tasting, door prizes and an impromptu jazz portrait painting are also on the bill. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted for the TJS Youth Scholarship award. Art in Wake Forest

As part of its monthly Art After Hours celebrations, The Cotton Company in historic downtown Wake Forest will host a free wine tasting and artist reception for Susan Espin from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Espin, a New Orleans native who specializes in watercolors and portraits of children and pets, has studied under notable artists such as Bob Rankin, Luana Winner, Paul McCormick, Tom Lynch and Sterling Edwards. Tall tales

Award-winning recording artist and storyteller Donna Washington will share stories, myths and folktales from around the world at 3 p.m. Sunday in Raleigh at the N.C. Museum of History. It's part of the museum's Summer Family Performance Series. Admission is free. Details: www.ncmuseumofhistory.org
