RALEIGH - As storms moved through the Triangle on Sunday evening, utility crews scrambled to restore power to more than 11,000 customers.

A strong line of storms moved through the area between 6 and 8 p.m., leaving as many as 4,000 Progress Energy customers and more than 7,000 Duke Energy customers temporarily without power.

At one point, Duke Energy's Web site reported 7,160 customers without power in Durham County. Shortly after 9 p.m., the company reported as few as 15 customers still powerless.

Progress Energy's Web site also reported thousands of customers without power in the Raleigh metropolitan area.

The largest Raleigh outage was reported between Six Forks and Falls of Neuse roads, north of the Interstate 440 Beltline, where more than 2,000 customers were powerless. By 9:30 p.m., Progress Energy reported 2,439 still without power in Wake County.
