RESEARCH NIGHT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT MS: The Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will hold a research night Thursday at the Marriott Raleigh Crabtree Valley. This year's speaker, Dr. Caroline Whitacre, will discuss the effects of sex on MS, specifically the effect of hormonal changes, and she will talk about her latest research on pregnancy and MS and the recent estriol trial in MS. Whitacre is a professor of molecular virology, immunology and medical genetics at Ohio State University.
The event begins with a reception from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m., followed by the presentation from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Seating is limited, so early registration is encouraged. To register, call (800) 344-4867.
PLANNING FOR FUQUAY-VARINA CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL REUNION: Friends, families and alumni of the Fuquay Consolidated Alumni Association are invited to a reunion weekend July 4-5. From 1923 to 1970, Fuquay-Varina Consolidated School was a segregated school for black children. In 1970, the school became Fuquay-Varina Elementary School. It was closed in 1989. CONTEMPORARY ART: The Nasher Museum of Art's director, Kimerly Rorschach, and curator of education, Juline Chevalier, will lead a discussion and show slides from the exhibition "Taste of the Modern: Rothko, Rauschenberg, Oldenburg, Kline." The exhibition is part of a special loan to the Nasher from the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. The discussion will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Southwest Branch Library, 3605 Shannon Road, Durham. For more information, go to
