Business and art connected this month at the Visual Art Exchange's annual fundraiser, which set records for attendance and earnings. The Raleigh-based nonprofit cited the efforts of Monica Doss, the event's honorary chair and president of the Council for Entrepreneurial Development, as a reason for nearly $70,000 worth of success.

The money came from ticket sales, sponsorships and an auction of 170 works donated by artists. Attendance topped 400.

Elsewhere, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County Inc. and the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce will present their annual Business Support of the Arts Awards on Monday.
