One captain -- Raymond Felton -- did play the fourth quarter, despite a sprained right ankle.

Another captain -- Gerald Wallace -- didn't play in the fourth, because the coach didn't think he deserved to.

Those were the intriguing subplots in the Charlotte Bobcats' 13-point comeback in a 92-89 victory against the Washington Wizards Saturday. The Bobcats shot 57 percent in the final quarter and held the Wizards to nine points in the last six minutes.

They did all that extremely shorthanded in the backcourt. Guards Matt Carroll (sore right Achilles) and D.J. Augustin (abdominal strain) were both out, and Felton played the entire fourth quarter with the sprained ankle.

Felton controlled that final quarter with four assists, four points and two rebounds. That was after leaving the game early in the third quarter, after stumbling over a cameraman and spraining his ankle.

"I didn't expect him to come back when they took him to the locker room," said Bobcats coach Larry Brown. "But Raymond is a special person. We had NO chance if he didn't play."

Brown wasn't so complimentary toward Wallace, who didn't play after leaving the game with just under nine minutes left in the third quarter and the Bobcats down eight. Wallace totaled 20 minutes, finishing with five rebounds, one assists, no points and no shot attempts.

"I didn't think he had any energy," Brown said of Wallace. "I didn't think he was running. When Adam (Morrison, 11 points and three assists) came in, he gave us a lot of energy."

Wallace said he was "very surprised" by the benching: "I was never told why he took me out."

Told Brown said it was about energy, Wallace replied, "Everybody has their own opinion. I guess he felt I wasn't playing up to par."

Do Wallace and Brown need to hash this out?

"He makes all the decisions, I just try to do my job," Wallace said. "If it's not up to par, that's his call."

The Bobcats (14-24) got through this one with exceptional 3-point shooting, making 9 of 20 from outside the arc. Raja Bell, making his first start since a five-game absence with a strained groin, had 19 points and five assists. Boris Diaw added 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting.
