It's also put basketball in perspective for the shooter whose 431 3-point shots lead the SEC and rank third in NCAA history.

"It used to be that a bad game was the end of the road for me. When I went through my cancer, I realized basketball is fun but it's not that big of a deal," Lofton said.

A drug test he was randomly selected for during the 2007 NCAA Tournament indicated potential steroid use or cancer.

Coach Bruce Pearl said NCAA officials believed something was genuinely wrong with Lofton rather than accusing him of steroid use and allowed him to play through the tournament.

Tennessee officials didn't tell him and his family of the test results until hours after the Vols lost to Ohio State in the NCAA regional semifinals.

MOUNTAINEERS' HUGGINS SIGNS DEAL: West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins signed an 11-year contract with the school Friday that will keep him at his alma mater until he's 65.

The deal will pay Huggins $1.5 million a year, plus incentives. When he arrived in April 2007, he was paid $800,000 in his first season.

"It's a great day for myself and for my family. To be able to represent this great state is an honor," Huggins said. "It's great to be able to work in a place where you enjoy the people that you work with and you trust the people that you work with."

Athletic director Ed Pastilong said the contract keeps Huggins at West Virginia "for the remainder of his coaching career" and it's possible the contract could go beyond age 65. "This is a good marriage," Pastilong said.

The contract, which Pastilong said would be made public Monday, includes a $4 million buyout, the same amount the university is seeking to recover from former football coach Rich Rodriguez, who quit in December for a job at Michigan.

MCCORMACK GOING TO UCONN: University of Washington women's center Jessica McCormack says she will to transfer to Connecticut.

The 6-foot-5 freshman, who is currently playing for the New Zealand national team, confirmed a report in The Hartford Courant that she has accepted a scholarship offer from UConn.

PLAYERS WON'T RETURN TO INDIANA: Indiana coach Tom Crean will not reinstate Armon Bassett and Jamarcus Ellis, who were ordered off the team in March.

Interim coach Dan Dakich dismissed the players for missing an appointment and then failing to show up to run laps as part of their punishment.

Crean also said on Friday that DeAndre Thomas will not return to the team.
