The NCAA released its annual academic scores on Tuesday. The academic progress rates show the academic record, actually a four-year average from 2003-04 through 2006-07, for every Division I team. A passing grade for the APR is 925. For full school-by-school reports for all Division I teams, go to ncaa.org.

Teams from five area schools were penalized for poor APRs. The penalties (listed below) are meant to be enforced in 2008-09.

Here's a snapshot of the major sports at the state's ACC schools, East Carolina and N.C. schools that were penalized:

3 Limited to 9.82 scholarships.

4 Limited to 8.91 scholarships.

5 Limited to 10.83 scholarships.

6 Limited to 12 renewals.

7 Limited to 12.22 scholarships.
