Sidney Lowe's son sentenced to 15 months

After an emotional plea by N.C. State basketball coach Sidney Lowe that his son be granted mercy from a judge, Sidney Lowe II was sentenced Tuesday to 15 months at a Guilford County prison farm.

Expansion killed the round-robin in basketball and created an unbalanced schedule. Each team plays five opponents twice — two of which are the designated partner (i.e. UNC's partners are Duke and N.C. State) — and then three home games and three road games.

Degand may return in October

Valvano left two legacies

Jim Valvano died of cancer in 1993, at age 47. He was eulogized as a championship coach, as the man who led N.C. State on one of the most thrilling tournament rides in basketball history, coaching the Wolfpack to the ACC championship and the NCAA championship in 1983.
