With the score tied 3-3, Carolina defenseman Bret Hedican drove the puck ahead when he saw a Florida forward in front of him gliding to the bench for a shift change. Hedican fed Trevor Letowski for a shot, and Cory Stillman gathered the rebound and put it back in for the winner with 1:06 left.

The night Cory Stillman notched his last center-ice goal against the Hurricanes as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning. That night, it was former Hurricanes goaltender Kevin Weekes whom Stillman caught cheating behind the net.
