Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tim Gleason suffered an undisclosed injury while playing for the United States at the world championships and did not play in a 9-1 win over Norway on Monday.

U.S. officials were "hopeful" that Gleason would play today when the United States faces Finland in the quarterfinals, a USA Hockey representative said.

Gleason was injured in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Finland when he was checked from behind into the boards by Florida Panthers center Olli Jokinen, who was ejected from that game and suspended for one game as well.

Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Tuesday the Canes believe Gleason to be OK and that the injury is not concussion-related. He missed a February game with a concussion.

Coincidentally, Gleason also missed 13 games when he was hit with a Jokinen shot and broke his left foot in December 2006.
