Once found only in Europe, the brown trout is now found on every continent except Antarctica. The North Carolina state-record fish weighed 24 pounds, 10 ounces and was caught in the Nantahala River in 1998. The world-record catch weighed 40 pounds, 4 ounces and was caught in the White River in Arkansas in 1992.
