Panthers' five QBs undrafted

Delhomme leads a group that has 'no signing-bonus babies'

The five Carolina Panthers quarterbacks stood at midfield Monday in their red jerseys, warning overzealous defensive players they were off limits.

Nobody dared to touch them during the optional workout, part of a firm football tradition to protect the guys playing the glamour position.

Only these red-clad guys weren't deemed that valuable on draft weekend. Carolina is the only NFL team without a QB taken in the draft.

"I must admit we're proud of the fact that there are no signing-bonus babies in our quarterback room," Jake Delhomme said.

Delhomme, Matt Moore, Brett Basanez, Lester Ricard and rookie Taylor Tharp have been cut a total of five times and have a combined four stints on NFL practice squads and one tour in the now-defunct NFL Europa.

Delhomme takes pride in being the leader of this bunch. After leaving Louisiana-Lafayette, he was waived three times by the New Orleans Saints and played in Europe. When finally given a shot, Delhomme led the Panthers to the Super Bowl in the 2003 season, his first year as a starter. He is working his way back from ligament-replacement surgery.

REPORT SAYS OWENS' CONTRACT EXTENDED: Terrell Owens and the Dallas Cowboys agreed Monday to a three-year contract extension worth around $27 million, ESPN.com and The Dallas Morning News reported.

The key to the deal may not be the length or even the money, which is close to what Randy Moss received.

The best part is that Owens will not be playing out the final year of his contract, eliminating a potentially explosive topic from a team that needs its attention on ending an 11-season drought without a playoff win.

'PACMAN' CAN PRACTICE: Adam "Pacman" Jones can join the Dallas Cowboys for everything but the regular season -- for now.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said he will decide by Sept. 1 whether to end Jones' suspension, which wiped out the entire 2007 season when he was with the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys play their opener Sept. 7 against the Browns in Cleveland.

Jones could be in action as soon as today, the team's next practice.

Jones has been arrested six times and has been involved in 12 incidents requiring police intervention since being drafted.

BRONCOS RELEASE HENRY: The Denver Broncos cut mercurial running back Travis Henry, with coach Mike Shanahan saying Monday the move was more about Henry's personality than his play.

"He's just too inconsistent as a person," Shanahan said. "When you're too inconsistent as a person, you usually aren't going to win championships."

The Broncos signed Henry to a five-year, $22.5 million contract in March 2007, but he was hampered by injuries in his only season in Denver.
