N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs continue this week in baseball, girls soccer and dual-team tennis, and playoffs begin in softball.

The NCHSAA finals are weeks away in most sports, but the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association will conclude its seasons this week in baseball, softball, tennis, track and field, girls soccer and boys lacrosse.

The N.C. High School Lacrosse Association and the N.C. Women's High School Lacrosse semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, with the finals on Saturday.

The NCHSAA individual tennis championships are Friday and Saturday.

Dual-team tennis competition, in which team scores determine the winner, continues today and resumes next week.

The NCHSAA held its 4-A and 2-A state track and field championships this past Saturday and the 1-A and 3-A are scheduled for this Saturday.

NO HOMER: Morgan Barbour of Garner, who leads the area with 10 home runs, almost had another one in a 12-1 softball victory over East Wake on Saturday.

Barbour was touched between third base and home by a student manager. Touching a runner is illegal, and she was called out.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association record for home runs in a season is 12.

FIRST QUALIFIER: Southeast Raleigh exchange student Daniel Gonzalez of Venezuela became the school's first boys tennis individual state qualifier with a third-place finish in the East Regional in Fayetteville.

DA DOMINATES: Durham Academy dominated the boys and girls competition Saturday in the Triangle Independent Schools Athletic Association track and field championships at North Raleigh Christian.

The Cavaliers boys topped second-place Ravenscroft 108-72. The DA girls beat second-place Cary Academy 122-100.

Durham Arts' Adrianne Soo won the girls 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters, and Tyler Ford of Cary Academy won the girls 100, 200, long jump and triple jump.

Doug Onuscheck of Ravenscroft was the high jump, triple jump and long jump titlist.

The N.C. Independent School Athletic Association championships are Saturday. The 3-A meet is at Forsyth Country Day.

The NCISAA 1A/2A finals are at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte as well.

FIRST LIGHTS: The Garner girls softball team will play its first night game at the school tonight in the opening round of the 4-A playoffs.

The Trojans play Leesville Road at 7 p.m.
