Wake Christian won N.C. Christian School Association state championships in baseball, softball and girls soccer Saturday in finals played at Wilson.Sean Willingham tossed a one-hitter, a bunt single in the fourth inning, to lead the baseball team to a five-inning 11-0 victory over Wilson Christian.Willingham struck out eight, including the first seven batters he faced."He was pretty much untouchable today, especially in the first three innings," Wake Christian baseball coach Randy Johnson said. "His curveball was really working."Derek Barbour delivered a two-run homer during a seven-run third inning for the Bulldogs. Willingham had a single and a double, and Tyler McCauley had two doubles and a single."We were good in every phase today," Johnson said. "We got 11 hits in the semifinals [a 9-5 win over Walkertown Gospel Light], but over half our hits didn't get out of the infield."We hit much better today."Wake Christian finished 18-5.Kara Mulligan and Elizabeth Hefner capped their senior seasons by scoring goals in Wake Christian's 2-0 soccer championship win over Wilson Christian. Taylor Holste had an assist.Wake Christian defeated Wilmington Christian 11-1 for the softball title.Kayla Caviness struck out six batters to give her 161 for the year, and the win was her 16th for the 17-7 club.Crystin Moore led the offense with a bases-loaded triple. Becca Mayhew and Brena Jordan each had two hits.PRIDE GETS SHUTOUT: Leesville Road posted its 18th girls soccer shutout of the season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Fuquay-Varina in the second round of the state 4-A playoffs.The Pride has allowed only three goals this season, and Fuquay had been shut out only twice this season.Leesville will play Chapel Hill, a 2-1 winner over Middle Creek. Molly Spencer and Maddie Stark each had a goal and an assist for the Tigers.MCLAUGHLIN LEADS FALCONS: Senior Maggie McLaughlin scored three goals in helping Green Hope to an 8-0 second-round girls soccer win over Lumberton.The Falcons will be at home against Broughton in the third round.APEX FACES HOGGARD: Apex and Wilmington Hoggard, easy second-round winners, will meet in the NCHSAA 4-A girls soccer third round.Apex, the 2007 state champ, pounded Fayetteville Sanford 7-0.Hoggard blasted Southeast Raleigh 6-0.ENLOE FACES NO. 1 TEAM: Enloe earned a crack at East Chapel Hill, the top-ranked girls 4-A soccer team in the state, with a 2-1 win over Southern Pines Pinecrest.East Chapel Hill (22-1-2) is No. 1 in the N.C. Soccer Coaches Association rankings.The Wildcats have 21 shutouts this season.GIBBONS SOCCER WINS: Cardinal Gibbons powered through the second round of the NCHSAA 2-A girls soccer playoffs with a 10-0 victory over Reidsville.ST. DAVID'S OUSTED: St. David's was eliminated from the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 2-A first-round baseball playoffs with a 12-7 loss to Fayetteville AcademyGIBBONS DOMINATES 2-A TENNIS: Cardinal Gibbons dominated the Mideastern 2-A tennis regional, qualifying two singles players and two doubles teams for next week's state championships.Will Rollinson of Gibbons defeated teammate Michael Reilly 6-2, 6-2 for the singles championship.Ryan Daly and Jonathan Fedorkowicz of Gibbons topped teammates Chris Geaslen and Chris Betz 6-2, 6-1 for the doubles title.MALIZIA WINS 4-A REGIONAL: Andrew Malizia, a state 4-A singles semifinalist in 2007, won the Mid-East 4-A singles regional at Sanderson.Malizia defeated Green Hope's Jack Bowling 6-3, 6-2.Apex senior Viking Edeback and sophomore Wesley Barrett defeated Broughton's Jack Parks and J.B. Weaver for the doubles title 6-2, 6-1.Edeback and Weaver (22-2) were seeded third."They played with a lot of confidence today," Apex coach Ryan Phelps said. "They had seen quite a few of the players in the regionals and felt good about their chances."
