CORRECTION

A brief on Page 2E in the Life, etc. section Wednesday incorrectly identified a student at Wake Technical Community College who earned a gold medal at a culinary competition. The student is Graham Tull.

One would think that a culinary competition would involve the judges tasting the food.

But that was not true at the American Culinary Federation Triad Chapter Culinary Salon and Hot Foods Competition earlier this month, in which a handful of Wake Technical Community College culinary students earned medals.

Graham Tuttle, 18, and his teammate, Norma Miller, 62, earned a gold medal for their entries in the hot food competition. Only the food was not served hot. It was served cold and covered in aspic, a clear jelly. The pair was judged on their cooking technique and plate presentation. They prepared five dishes: braised lamb shank, poached salmon, sauted filet mignon, grilled chicken breast and roasted rack of lamb.

Another Wake Tech team, Roger Pelayo and Jeff Mobley, earned a bronze medal in the same competition. Pelayo also earned a bronze for a carved melon he entered in the showpiece contest.
