NCDOT’s BeltlineJam project begins moving traffic onto the I-40 shoulder

Construction crews rebuilding Raleigh’s southern Beltline are scheduled Friday night to start pushing traffic into three outside lanes in each direction on Interstate 40. The first lane shifts will be on westbound I-40, starting at Lake Wheeler Road. Traffic backups are expected Friday night when I-40 is reduced to two lanes at 9 p.m. and one lane about 11 p.m.

Under a North Carolina Senate proposal for swaps of public land worth more than $100 million, Umstead State Park would annex Wake County’s park and bike trails at Lake Crabtree. The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority would take title to prime state acreage in West Raleigh – with the right to develop or sell it.
