Clayton hurdlers Dutch, Harrison make U.S. National Team

The 2015 U.S. Outdoor Track and Field national team will have a bit more of a blue hue thanks to Clayton High graduates Johnny Dutch and Keni Harrison.

Both standout hurdlers — and former wearers of the Comet Blue — made the national team with their runner-up finishes at the U.S. Outdoor National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on Saturday.

Road Worrier: Push underway in NC to require ignition interlocks for all DWI offenders

North Carolina orders interlocks for drunk drivers who have been convicted for repeat offenses, who refuse to take a blood-alcohol breath test or who blow a .15 – nearly double the .08 limit that legally defines impaired driving. Now there’s a push in the General Assembly to require them for everybody convicted of DWI – including first-time offenders. Is this a radical idea? Not in 26 other states, where it is the law.

No bond for 4 suspects in Cary student’s death

Four defendants from Morrisville – the youngest of them just 17 – faced a judge for the first time Monday in the death of a 16-year-old Green Hope High School student. All four were denied bail in a case police describe as a Cary drug deal gone wrong. One attorney said the case involved “a quarter bag of weed.”
