Feed the Need

Feed the Need is a partnership of The News & Observer, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and sponsoring businesses. Together, we are raising awareness about hunger, collecting nonperishable food for hungry people and generating cash donations to support the Food Bank's work. The project includes a month-long print campaign in The N&O, a dedicated website and promotional support from our broadcast partners, ABC-11 television and Curtis Media radio. It also includes a week-long food drive and a grand finale event across the region. On that Saturday, volunteers are stationed at locations throughout the area to collect food and to sell a special edition of the paper for $1, with 75 cents going to help fight hunger. In its three years, Feed the Need has raised more than $167,000 in cash and collected almost 40,000 pounds of food. That translates to about 670,000 meals.
