* About 27,000 Cooks Deep Fryers, made in China and sold by J.C. Penney, because the fryers have faulty heating elements that can cause the fryers to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard. J.C. Penney is aware of five incidents involving the deep fryers, including one report of a minor burn and three reports of damaged countertops. Consumers should immediately stop using the deep fryers and return them to the nearest J.C. Penney store for a full refund.

The fryers were sold at J.C. Penney's stores nationwide, in its catalog and at www.jcp.com from August through January for about $50. The fryer has "Cooks" stamped on the side, and model number 22016 is printed on the bottom.

Details: by phone at (888) 333-6063; by Web at www.jcp.com.

* About 64,000 Strike Force portable air compressors, manufactured in China and imported by Advance Stores Co., doing business as Advance Auto Parts. The compressors are recalled because the motor can overheat and cause the protective cover to catch fire. Also, this cover might not prevent electrical shocks if the compressors are touched.

The company has received four reports of fires, but no reports of injuries. They were sold at Advance Auto Parts stores around the country and on www.partsamerica.com between October 2006 and December.

Details: by phone at (888) 896-6881; by Web at www.advanceautoparts.com.

* About 482,000 Hamilton Beach and Proctor-Silex toasters, manufactured in China and imported by Hamilton Beach Brands, because the toaster can remain on even after the toast pops up, posing a fire hazard.

The company has received 63 reports of toasters that were on in the up position, but no reports of injuries or fires. The toasters were sold online and at department, grocery, home and mass-merchandise stores around the country, along with other retailers, between August and February.

Details: by phone at (800) 574-6800; by Web at www.hamiltonbeach.com or www.proctorsilex.com.

* About 2,000 Infantino "Lamb Grabby Rattles," manufactured in China by Infantino, because the tail portion of the lamb-shaped rattle can detach. This poses a choking hazard. The company has received eight reports of tails detaching, but no reports of injuries. The rattles were sold at Wal-Mart, Babies "R" Us and other stores around the country between September and February.

Details: by phone at (888) 808-3111.
