Connell Associates, a pharmaceutical and biotechnology consultant in Cary, entered into a joint venture with ICBS, a business development firm in New York and Canada, and McCoy Enterprises, a life-science product development company in New Jersey. The venture, PharmaDerm, will focus on licensing, developing and commercializing its portfolio of pharmaceutical and biotechnology discoveries.

Gateway Bank & Trust opened a branch at 504 Meadowmont Village in Chapel Hill.

NC TonerServ has opened at 1109 Copeland Oaks Drive in Morrisville. NC TonerServ is a subsidiary of American TonerServe, which provides printer supplies and services.

Glen Wesley, alternate captain of the Carolina Hurricanes NHL hockey team, is the new spokesman for Saturn retailers of the Triangle. Wesley will be included in all local print, radio and television ads for the next six months.

GeneralSports Venue, the U.S. licensee of the AstroTurf brand, has been awarded the synthetic turf and other athletic surfaces contract by U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance. General Sports Venue, which has an executive office in Raleigh, provides custom solutions for synthetic sports fields, surfaces and athletic venues.

Flaxenfield, a design and advertising agency in Hillsborough, was chosen by Liringis Chiropractic to produce an advertising campaign that includes TV and direct mail.

Myriad Media, a Raleigh film and video production firm, expanded its capacity by adding a digital post-production suite and boosting staff. Its newest suite provides clients with a combination of editing, motion graphics and sound services. Danny Mears was hired as an assistant editor.

LA Boxing, a boxing and mixed martial arts gym franchise, opened at 935 North Harrison Ave. in Cary.

The Healthy Children Foundation and the founder of Healthy Kids Camps have created Camp Shining Stars, a nonprofit weight-loss camp for boys and girls ages 10 to 18 on the campus of Barton College in Wilson.
