WRAL Vice President and General Manager Jim Hefner will leave the station as of May 16, Capitol Broadcasting said. President Jim Goodmon declined to say whether the departure is voluntary, only that it is "an internal personnel issue."

Hefner was named general manager in 2002. In his stead, John Harris has been named acting general manager, effective immediately. Harris has worked for WRAL for 17 years in several roles, including news director and director of programming.

Goodmon said he expects to name a permanent general manager within three months.
