In an odd marriage of pop culture, movie marketing and the national housing slump, the producers of "Hancock," the new action comedy, are sponsoring a contest that will pay off the winner's mortgage, up to $360,000.
The movie stars Will Smith as a troubled and misunderstood superhero who has good intentions but could use an image adjustment. It opens Wednesday.
The contest, which runs through July 6, requires entrants to write a 200-word essay explaining why they are deserving. There are some other rules. For instance, your household income, based on 2007 tax returns, can't be more than $80,000. For details and an entry form, visit hancockmovie.com.
