LAS VEGAS -- The chief executive of a fast-growing Las Vegas furniture industry showplace says rapid expansion plans are slowing.
World Market Center Las Vegas chief Robert Maricich said Tuesday that plans for the 12 million-square-foot trade show complex were ahead of schedule and not in jeopardy. The Las Vegas group has stated a goal of replacing High Point, N.C., as the home of the world's biggest furniture trade show by 2013.
The center opened its first 1.3 million-square-foot building in January 2005. It will open a third building -- a 2.1 million-square-foot expo center -- when it starts its annual summer market next week. Maricich says the center will most likely return to original plans to finish eight big buildings on 57 acres by 2013.
