Bob Ingram, vice chairman, pharmaceuticals at GlaxoSmithKline, will be inducted into the N.C. Business Hall of Fame next month.

Ingram, who led GSK through the Glaxo Wellcome-SmithKline Beecham merger, started his career on a smaller stage: sweeping floors in the department store his grandfather owned in Charleston, Ill. Despite that early retail experience, he has spent his career working for pharmaceutical companies, joining Glaxo in 1990.

Joining Ingram in this year's Hall of Fame class are: Charlotte construction magnate John Crosland Jr.; Jerry Richardson, founder and majority owner of the Carolina Panthers of Charlotte; and Edward Smith, owner and chief executive of Grady-White Boats of Greenville.

Inductees are chosen by the N.C. Chamber of Commerce and Junior Achievement of Central Carolinas. The ceremony will be Nov. 12 at Charlotte's Westin Hotel.

Cameron Park Inn of Raleigh has been chosen as one of the South's Best B&Bs in the 2008-09 Best of BedandBreakfast.com Awards. The awards are on a review of the nearly 50,000 entries submitted to BedandBreakfast.com, an online B&B directory and worldwide reservations network.

Cathy W. Lemly, a portfolio community manager with Professional Property Management in Raleigh, was named Community Manager of the Year by the North Carolina chapter of the Community Associations Institute at its annual meeting in Charlotte.

Westgate Plant, C.C. Mangum Co. of Raleigh, earned the National Asphalt Pavement Association's Diamond Achievement Commendation for Excellence in Hot-Mix Asphalt Plant-Site Operations. The commendation recognizes responsible operation practices and cultivates good community relations.

Flywheel Design in Durham was included in the fifth edition of Logo Lounge, a compilation of designs from leading studios. Four designs by Flywheel will be featured.

GlaxoSmithKline was recognized with a Lifetime Contribution Award from the American Lung Association of North Carolina. GlaxoSmithKline is the association's top donor, having given $1.1 million since 1972.

Betty Crump, a community banker at Crescent State Bank's Apex office, has been named Ambassador of the Year by the Apex Chamber of Commerce. Ambassadors are responsible for increasing membership, planning and implementing Chamber activities and representing the Chamber at community functions.

HumanCentric, a product design and development company in Cary, was recognized as a judge's favorite for its bicycle rack design in the CityRacks Design Competition in New York City. The contest was part of an effort to promote greener transportation.

The King Partnership in Raleigh won eight Stars Awards for strategic marketing materials designed by the agency in partnerhsip with its real estate clientele. Stars Awards are presented annually by the N.C. Homebuilders Association to recognize North Carolina builders and developers. Apex First Development, developer of The Villages of Apex, won Community of the Year, Best Television Commercial, Best Logo Design and Best Brochure Design. LNR Property Corp., developer of Blount Street Commons, won Best Sales and Information Center and Best Black and White Ad. Macallan Construction Co. won Best Website Design and Shea Homes won the Sales and Information Center Outstanding Achievement Award for Brightleaf at the Park in Durham.

CityScape Builders received the Best Single Family Detached Home, $250,000-$500,000 award for its Summerhill plant at the 2008 Stars Awards Gala. Venture Homes by Perry Builders won in Best Single Family Detached Home with a sales price from $100,000-$250,000 for the Sheldon floor plan in Abbington Ridge community. Coldwell Banker Howard Perry and Walston Builder Services announced that Preservation Homes won two Star awards, Best Brochure and Best Color Ad over a Full Page. Heritage Wake Forest won the Super Star Award for Best Attached Community of the Year for Heritage Crest and Best Color Ad for the Heritage Moments campaign. Ulanguzi Creative Strategies in Raleigh won three Stars Awards, Best Web Site for Soleil Center, Best Direct Mail Piece for Soleil Center and Best Sales Center for West at North.
