Google announced plans this morning to construct a second building at its 220-acre site in Lenoir.
The Internet search company is building a $600 million data center in Caldwell County to help handle increasing volumes of Web traffic. Google promised to create 210 jobs in Lenoir within four years in exchange for state and local incentives worth up to $260 million over 30 years.
But Google officials haven't released many details about how big its Lenoir campus will be. The site is located about 200 miles west of Raleigh
"The second building was part of our discussions from the start, so this isn't a surprise," said Lenoir Mayor David Barlow, in a prepared statement. "But it is good news for our local construction crews."
