AT&T wants to stop delivering white pages directories to customers' homes, ending a decades-long practice as it shifts information online.
The company, among the largest telecommunications companies in the state, submitted the proposal to the N.C. Utilities Commission today. AT&T said in its filing that the move reflects a decline in the use of white pages directories and shows its commitment to helping the environment.
If the proposal is approved by the Utilities Commission, which regulates telephone companies in the state, AT&T plans to combine business and government listings in a single book, which it will deliver to customers' homes.
The residential listings that were previously listed in the white page will be found online at (www.realpageslive.com) or at (www.YELLOWPAGES.COM). People who prefer a printed copy can request one at 1-866-732-5977 and a copy will be mailed within 10 days.
