Firm adds intellectual property lawyers

Law firm Troutman Sanders is staffing up its Raleigh office with three new intellectual property lawyers.

James Thomas, Sheldon Pontaoe and Eileen Pontaoe took the firm's local head count to 22, about double the number two years ago. They had worked at law firm Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein.

Led by Thomas, they will provide trademark protection services for Troutman's pharmaceutical clients worldwide. They will also develop an Internet security practice, primarily to help financial companies detect online copycat scams.

"We're aggressively growing our intellectual property practice across the firm," said Doug Salyers, head of Troutman's intellectual property practice group. "It's a hot area for corporations globally, as the protection of names remains a very important business practice."

Troutman Sanders is based in Atlanta and has more than a dozen offices and 675 attorneys worldwide.
