Larry D. Conrad, 59, associate vice president for technology integration and chief information officer at Florida State University, will be the new vice chancellor for information technology and chief information officer at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Conrad will succeed Dan Reed, who became director of scalable computing at Microsoft Research earlier this month.

Conrad has been the chief information officer at Florida State University since 1998. Before that he was at Arizona State University for 10 years, six years as director of the computer center and four as director of computing and network consulting services.

He graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science from Iowa State University and a master's degree in computer science from Arizona State University. His job at UNC-CH will begin Feb. 1.

Jim Pendergrass was appointed general manager at Aqueduct Conference Center in Chapel Hill.

Chris Hutter has been appointed chief financial officer at PowerSecure International in Wake Forest, which provides energy management and conservation solutions to utilities and their customers. He replaces Gary Zuiderveen, who has been named vice president of financial reporting and will continue to serve as the company's controller and principal accounting officer.

Brian Hart was appointed vice president of North American sales at Hatteras Networks, and Kevin Martin joined as vice president of EMEA (European) sales. Research Triangle Park-based Hatteras Networks provides ethernet technology and services.

Ralph Mazza was appointed vice president of global professional services at SciQuest, a Cary company that provides on-demand supplier management and procurement automation solutions.

John Goodacre was appointed executive vice president and general counsel at Quintiles Transnational Corp., a Durham-based pharmaceutical services company. Carole W. Springfield was promoted to site startup manager in Quintiles' clinical operations division.

Janet Carr has been promoted to general manager of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. She will assist the president in the management of the Chamber's operations, in addition to managing the membership development, membership services and communications department.

James M. "Jay" Parker has been named vice chairman of First Citizens BancShares international division. The Clinton native will continue to serve as chief operating officer and western division president of IronStone Bank.
