Should a CEO blog? More executives are thinking about doing it, but relatively few consider all of the consequences, said Debbie Weil, who wrote "The Corporate Blogging Book.". Stay away from religion and politics. That's obvious. And don't mix blogging with Merlot -- bad idea.

Here are a few other tips from Weil:

* Don't hire a ghost blogger (someone to write your blog for you). Someone will find out.

* Find your passion, a topic for your blog that you can sink your teeth into and unpack over time.

* Write conversationally (no corporate-speak allowed).

* Listen to your readers (and respond when appropriate).

* Always, always link to other blogs and articles; show that you're part of the online conversation.

* Add online video and photos to your blog whenever you can (it's easy if you use YouTube or Flickr). Keep it entertaining.

* Everyone needs an editor. It's OK to hire someone to catch those typos, suggest topics and keep your blog on track.
