WHAT HAS GONE WRONG?
Several drugs produced at GSK's Zebulon plant face challenges, leading the drug maker to scale back plans there. The drugs below are made or packaged, or both, at the Zebulon facility.
August 2005: GSK says it will invest at least $92 million and create 200 jobs in Zebulon. The upgrade would prepare the plant to make more drugs; state and local officials promise up to $4.5 million in incentives.

January 2007: GSK's investment in the plant is $88 million; 96 jobs have been added.

Mid-2007: Two new AIDS drugs start to grab market share from Combivir.
August 2007: GSK fails to win FDA approval for an added use for Advair that would have expanded sales of the asthma drug.
November 2007: GSK announces plans to close plants and cut jobs to save up to $1.4 billion in annual costs over three years.
End of 2007: Anti-nausea treatment Zofran faces generic competition.
